ABOUT ME

Even though I majored in art in college and worked as an art director and illustrator for many years, it wasn’t until I took a couple of classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC that I began painting in oils.  They have been my medium of choice since then and now I only occasionally paint with acrylic or watercolor. Numerous classes and workshops focusing on oil painting have helped me hone my skills.

Weather permitting, I like to paint outdoors. Either completing a painting on site or finishing it later back in my studio.  My landscape subject matter is usually around the rivers, lakes and farmland of Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Each fall I compete in the Grand Marais Paint out Competition where I have received 1st place in the oil division, 2nd place overall, and 1st place in the quick paint. I also enjoy traveling to other states and countries.  I frequently attend figure painting co-ops.  My still life paintings are usually of the spring flowers here in Minnesota, or any interesting objects I find around my house.

My painting “Morning in Prague” was chosen by Mary Pawlenty to hang in the Governor’s Mansion for 7 years.

I strive for a good composition and color harmony,  with just enough detail added for interest.
